History of Assessment at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Mellon

With its emphasis on liberal professional education, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Mellon has traditionally pioneered innovative and authentic ways to assess student learning and performance – for example, emphasizing real-world projects with real-world clients. In more recent years, with the formal emergence of the assessment movement in higher education, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Mellon has taken up the challenge to be more systematic in its efforts.

In 2007, the Assessment Task Force was created to help coordinate assessment initiatives across campus. Concurrently and in parallel, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Mellon began a self-study process in preparation for the Middle States accreditation visit in 2008. This process resulted in a campus-wide plan to assess learning outcomes in all departments and programs.

Here we provide documents produced by the Assessment Task Force and prepared for the Middle States accreditation visit.
